Case:
A 22 year old man from Milano is charged with having committed a theft, together
with two other unknown persons, having disturbed domestic peace, the peace of
the dead and divine service. In the night of 16/17 November 2006, the prosecutor
says, the three malefactors have opened the golden shrine in the cathedral of
Cologne and have robbed the bones of the Three Magi. Trying to cross the Swiss
border, the young man has been arrested in the possession of a handful of bones.
The defendant and his defence counsel will object - among other things:
- that he is not the person impeached by the prosecutor but, maybe, his twin
brother;
- that the photograph, supposed to be a reproduction of the author of the crime,
would not correspond to his physiognomy;
- that even if it was so, he has not touched the holy bones and certainly not
stolen them;
- that, in case he had taken them away, the bones were not those of the famous
Magi;
- and after all, if all this should be proved, he would have been entitled to do
it.
We are convinced, that the honourable judge will be all ears for every argument
and will pronounce a wise decision.
