We are very pleased to inform you that this year, the fifth edition of the International Moot Court will take place in The Hague. The theme this year is “Waar ligt de grens” (crossing borders).
The International Moot Court is organized by the Dutch foundation “Stichting International Moot Court”. This foundation is linked to the Dutch Council for the Judiciary. It aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and understanding of various international judicial systems, as well as to stimulate and improve relations between international legal professionals. To achieve this goal, the foundation organizes the International Moot Court once every few years.
At the International Moot Court, teams from different countries will present a (fictional) court session according to their own jurisdiction. During approximately one hour, they will in an inspiring way be playing the roles of judges, lawyers and – in the case of a criminal case – a public prosecutor. The roles of suspects, victims, witnesses, members of the jury etc. will either be played by members of the team or by people from the audience. This year the participating countries are Belgium, The Netherlands, Romania, Turkey, The United Kingdom and The United States. The European Court of Human Rights will close the day with a court session.
The International Moot Court will be attended by members from the bar and the judiciary and will also be open to the general public and press. We hope that the event will not only be informative and aspiring but also great fun for the teams and the audience.
The International Moot Court will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009.
Yours sincerely,
International Moot Court Committee 2009
